  WHAT HAPPENED?

  According to , United have reportedly approached their club legend to return to Old Trafford and take up a coaching role under manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman, however, could turn down the offer as he is close to replacing Vincent Kompany at Championship side Burnley.

  Per , the Clarerts are closing in on appointing the 47-year-old as their new boss after Kompany left for Bayern Munich earlier this summer. Previously, Van Nistelrooy worked as an assistant manager for the Netherlands national team and then managed PSV Eindhoven's U-19 side before taking charge of their senior side in 2022. He, however, departed the Dutch giants in the final phase of the 2022-2023 season, despite having a contract until 2025.
