According to , United and Lecce have a 'verbal agreement' in place over signing the 20-year-old for €30m (£25.2m) plus €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons. He adds documents will be checked in the next 24 hours, with Romano giving his customary 'here we go!' remark to signal the deal is virtually done.

United have been trying to sign a left-back or left wing-back in part due to Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw's injury woes. After having a smaller bid rejected, it seems the Red Devils have got their man in the Denmark international. If signed, he would become head coach Ruben Amorim's first United transfer.

Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani said the Italian team were trying to "resist" United's advances but ultimately the Premier League side have won out.
He said: "We are trying to resist, as is logical, because it is in our interest to keep the players who are protagonists of this group. So far, our idea is to not sell anyone in January."
